2008 US Open Betting Odds: Tiger Woods The Gambling Favorite
Tiger Woods is one of those rare athletes that comes along once in a generation. The type athlete that not only has the physical tools to be great, but also the work ethic and the mind needed to create immortality.
Woods position at the top of the golf world has never been more obvious than this week. He has not played a competitive round of golf since the Masters, yet he is still the gambling favorite to win the U.S. Open this weekend.
To further exhibit how far of a distance remains between Woods and the rest of the golf world, he is also coming off of surgery. Even without playing and the effects of surgery lingering, Woods is +250 to win this weekends tournament.
Phil Mickelson was beginning to narrow the gap between himself and Woods at the time of Woods' injury. He is the second choice at the Open. His gambling odds are +700.
Sergio Garcia, who has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career, comes in at the number three position. He is +1600. After that the odds jump higher with both Padraig Harrington and Vijay Singh at +2200.
Ernie Els, who is already one of the favorites to win the British Open, has odds of +4000. He is joined at that number with Adam Scott, Reteif Goosen, Justin Leonard, and Mike Weir.
The tournament is set to begin on Thursday at 10:00 in the morning.
