2010 Tour De France Betting Odds: Contador Favored Over Armstrong
The 2010 Tour de France has arrived and American Lance Armstrong is back, hoping to win the event again. Armstrong, however, will not be the favorite, that honor goes to last year's winner Alberto Contador.
Contador has been installed as a 8/13 favorite by sports books. Gamblers will have to lay $130 for every $80 they want to win should Contador prevail. Contador will face several challenges in trying to defend his title.
The first hurdle that Contador must clear is his new racing team. There is no riders from last years team that will be helping Contador at the 2010 Tour de France. Last year, Contador did not get along well with his teammates, but he was still strong enough to win the race.
Andy Schleck is predicted to be Contador's biggest challenger. Schleck has odds of 5/1. Schleck finished second last year, and at twenty-five years of age many consider him to be a force to deal with for the next decade in the sport. Schleck has worked hard on improving his time trials for this years race.
Armstrong is the third choice in what he has said will be his last Tour de France appearance. Last year, Armstrong was not expected to compete to win, but he surprised analysts with a strong showing. This year, Armstrong and eight other riders from last years squad have bolted for Radio Shack. Contador is the only rider that was left behind.
Other riders who have a chance to win the sports biggest event include Bradley Wiggins and Cadel Evans. Wiggins and Evans both have odds of 18/1. Ivan Bosco has 20/1 odds, and Frank Schleck, Andy's older brother, comes in as a longer shot at 33/1.
