AFC North Betting Preview: Steelers And Ravens Favored This Year

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a history of winning Super Bowl's that no NFL organization can match. The Steelers have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy six times, and they have many division titles to go along with those league championships.

Pittsburgh latest division title came last year, and the Steelers did not stop there. Pittsburgh advanced to the Super Bowl out of the AFC, but were beaten by the Green Bay Packers. It was the second time Pittsburgh had gone to the big game and lost, the other being in the nineties.

Despite always losing top players in free agency, the Steelers have maintained a level of excellence that few teams can mirror. This season, with many of their core players returning, Pittsburgh is again the betting favorite to win the AFC North. Odds makes have installed Pittsburgh as an even money divisional choice.

Baltimore has been right there with the Steelers since Ray Lewis came out of the University of Miami to lead a dominating defense. The past two seasons, Pittsburgh has ended the Ravens season, first in the AFC Championship game two years ago, and then again in the divisional playoff round last year.

Baltimore is a +115 betting choice to wrestle the division away from Pittsburgh in 2011-12. The Ravens return one of the best defenses in the league, and have multiple weapons on offense in running back Ray Rice and wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Quarterback Joe Flacco has been getting better in each of his seasons in the league.

Cleveland had a young squad last year, and at times played shockingly well. It was the rest of the games, however, that cost head coach Eric Mangini his job. Cleveland is young again this year, and is not expected to challenge Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Long shot gamblers can receive odds of +1000 on the Browns.

Cincinnati is a team that won the AFC North two seasons ago before collapsing last year. In the off season, the Bengals lost their long time quarterback, Carson Palmer, to retirement, after the Bengals refused to trade the disgruntled quarterback. Leading receiver Chad Ocho Cinco also left for New England. With little to get excited about, the Bengals fans are clinging to a miracle with odds of +1400.
