After Bad Start, Heat Appear in Control of NBA Finals
It has now become the symbol of these NBA Finals, when everything may have been altered, not only in this series but for the legacies and futures of some of the great figures in the game as well. It's three numbers written on the board in the Miami Heat locker room, and everyone understands: 6:34. It's not a verse in any holy book, though Heat coach Pat Riley the other day associated it with the basketball gods.
And it does, by now, seem to have some mystical properties, it's when identities changed and characters were perhaps exposed.
"Our season was hanging in the balance," Riley recalled of the moment, 6:34 remaining in the fourth quarter of Game 3, Miami trailing 0-2 in games and showing little resolve or resistance and being blown out, "And wherever it came from and how the players summoned it up is why we're all here."
