ALCS Betting Preview: Yankees And Rangers Start Tonight
The New York Yankees have made a habit out of appearing in the American League Championship Series, so it comes as no surprise that they are again in a position to play for a spot in the World Series starting tonight.
Across from the Yankees, however, in the other dugout, the Texas Rangers will be experiencing the pressure of the ALCS for the first time ever. The experience factor may be the main reason why the Yankees are the betting favorite despite the Rangers having home field advantage.
New York is on the road for the first two games, and starting tonight, they will begin defending their American League championship from last year against the Rangers. The Yankees may be on the road, but odds makers have given them odds of -147 for game one. The Rangers are returning odds of +137.
C.C. Sabathia's name has become well known at playoff time in the past few seasons, and the twenty game winner will take the hill tonight. C.J. Wilson will be the game one starter for Texas, with Cliff Lee not available after Lee pitched the Rangers into the ALCS on Tuesday night in Tampa.
It is important for Sabathia to win game one, because the Yankees starters are a question mark after their ace. Phil Hughes has been chosen to pitch game two, with Andy Pettite and A.J. Burnett going in games three and four back at Yankees Stadium.
If the Rangers can hold serve at home, they would be headed into New York with the possibility of Lee pitching two of the final five games in the series, should the series go to seven games. In Wilson, Texas has a pitcher who at times has looked just as dominant as Lee this season.
