Another Sportsbook Closes to US Citizens as Result of UIGEA
Curacao based online sportsbook, Pinnacle Sports, has announced today that they will no longer be accepting wagers from United States citizens. The announcement was not made however, until after players from the US tried to sign into their account this morning only to find a message letting them know they could no longer place bets.
Pinnacle Sports is one of the oldest and most reputable sports books online. It started in 1998 and it will continue to grow in European countries, according to a Pinnacle Sports representative.
The announcement of their withdrawal from the United States comes as a big surprise due to the timing. Most online gambling sites either already decided to continue accepting bets from Us citizens, or they quit the US market when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement law passed. The timing of their withdrawal is confusing and makes little sense to Internet gambling professionals.
A representative of Pinnacle Sports said in an interview, "When the U.S. focuses on something and says 'enough,' and when they go to 'war' on something, no individual company can possibly win in a fight of this nature."
Pinnacle Sports has announced that it will payout all US customer winnings and remaining balances and it thanks the US players for joining them over the past ten years.
