Anyone Betting On Tiger Woods In US Open Could Be In Trouble

Tiger Woods was the favorite coming into the US Open this weekend. He is at his best when there is a major title at stake, and odds makers would never even dare making anyone other than Woods the overwhelming favorite.

That is why after two rounds of play are complete, those bettors holding a gambling ticket with the name Woods printed on it, are in serious danger of losing their money. That is because Woods has not played well, and Ricky Barnes has.

Barnes has a US Open scoring record through the first two rounds at Bethpage. He has shot the first two rounds at an 8-under, 132. No other golfer in history, including Woods, has ever accomplished that feat. Now he will turn his attention towards holding off the filed in the final thirty-six holes.

"It's pretty cool," said Barnes, "Obviously at the beginning of the week you didn't think that score was out there. Obviously with some tees moved up and the soft greens helped out. And obviously with my ball-striking was the most probably impressive part of the first thirty-six holes."

Barnes may be a new name for golf fans, but he certainly is not new to winning. He was the 2002 U.S. Amateur Champion, so he does know how to finish. Luckily enough for him, Woods is far enough away that even his heroics may not be enough to overcome the deficit.

Woods is eleven shots off the pace. Not only does he have to make up the eleven strokes, but he also has to jump thirty-nine other players ahead of him before catching Barnes. It could be a task too tall for the living legend.
