As Olympics Wind Down, Gambling On Summer Events Decrease

Anyone who was looking to make money from gambling on the Olympics this year only had to put their money on one person. Michael Phelps. Although he was heavily favored in most of the events he won gold medals in, he still payed off for anyone betting on him.

Most of the team sports at the Olympics have also gone as planned. The United States basketball team is cruising through the competition on their way to a gold medal, and the Chinese gymnastics team took care of business as well.

Only a few surprises have taken place so far. The U.S. women's softball team has been so dominant over the past few Olympics that they have decided to take softball out of the Olympics starting in 2012.

That fact did not stop Japan from upsetting the Americans in an upset even more shocking than the 1980 U.S. hockey team defeating the Russians. Anyone betting on the final was sure to lose much money on the Americans.

The women's beach volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh once again took care of their business on the sand. They became the first women's team to ever defend their gold medal.

With the Olympics winding down, and the NFL getting closer to their regular season, the betting on the Beijing Olympic games is also coming to a close.All that is left is whether or not to lay the points on the American hoopsters.
