Assembly Puts Atlantic City Closer To Legalized Sports Gambling
Atlantic City has long considered itself the Las Vegas of the East Coast. Now they are inching closer to upholding that title by moving toward legalized sports gambling.
The Super Bowl this year produced one of the most gambled on games in the history of sports. That apparently was enough to convince the New Jersey General Assembly that it was time their state offered legal sports wagering.
Paul Moriarty, Nelson Albano, John Burzichelli, and Louis Greenwald, all New Jersey Legislation Assemblymen, sponsored a Bill that has tremendous support. It could lead the way to legalized gambling in the state's casinos.
Atlantic City has been in a renovating mode for several years. Out with the old, and in with new, has been the motto. Many of the old time casinos have been torn down, or undergone major renovations. The goal was to once again make the city relevant.
After watching the money that was spent on gambling on the Super Bowl, legalizing sports gambling became a viable option that could boost the city's economy tremendously.
The General Assembly voted 58-17 in favor of the Bill that could bring sports gambling to Atlantic City in the near future. The Bill could be on the ballot for voters in the presidential election later this year.
"Sports betting already exists in New Jersey, but only the criminals are enjoying the profits. Legal, carefully regulated sports wagering would bolster both Atlantic City and the state. New Jersey should go all in," said Burzichelli, a sponsor of the Bill..
