Australian Open Betting Odds: Williams And Federer Keep Trucking
The Australian Open started off the grand slam schedule for professional tennis over the past couple of weeks, and it appears that not much has changed since last season ended. Roger Federer and Serena Williams remain the top players, head and shoulders above their competition.
Early Saturday, Williams won her second straight and fifth overall Australian Open title. She did not receive mush resistance from runner-up Justine Henin. Henin, did, however, do something not many players have done lately, she won a set from Williams.
In winning the title, Williams also equalled her mentor, Billie Jean King, with twelve grand slam wins. She pointed that out in the trophy ceremony after her win on Saturday. These days it seems as though the only woman that can stop Williams is herself.
On the men's side it has also been business as usual for the top player in the world. Roger Federer has cruised through the early rounds, and finds himself only one win away from another grand slam title.
Federer will have to beat Andy Murray in the final match. Murray is one of the players that has given Federer trouble over the years, but Federer is still the overwhelming favorite to win the Australian title.
Federer's nemesis had been Rafael Nadal, but he was bounced from the tournament early after injuries forced him to retire in quarterfinals match. With Nadal out of the picture, Federer seems poised to add to his all-time record of grand slam titles won.
