Baseball Heads Into The Home Stretch Of The 2007 Season
The New York Yankees have been the talk of baseball for most of the season, whether it was their poor play or their recent hot stretch, they have been a marked team all year. Now it is time to leave it all out on the field as the season winds down.
The Yanks enter this weekends play five games behind the division leading Red Sox. Boston hit a rough patch but now seems to have things back on track heading into the final month.
In the Central, the Indians have opened up a 2.5 game lead on the Tigers, who have been playing dreadful baseball since the all star break. Minnesota remains in contention 6.5 back of the Indians.
The West has the biggest surprise as the Seattle Mariners are only one game behind Anaheim for the division lead, and the Mariners currently lead the wild card race.
Over in the senior circuit the Eastern division is opening up a bit. The Mets have opened a 5 game lead on the Phillies, and the Braves, who made the biggest trades at the deadline, now find themselves 6 games off the pace.
Chicago is hanging on just over .500 and leads the central. The Brewers are just a half game out and St. Louis is charging hard after a brutal start. The Cards are just 3 games behind the Cubs.
The West much like in the American League, is a surprise. Arizona leads the division by 3 games over the Padres and 5.5 over the Dodgers, two teams that were heavily favored over the Diamondbacks. San Diego does, however, lead in the wild card race.
