Baseball Opening Day Betting Begins With Some Familiarity
Opening day for Major League Baseball comes with the same excitement for hard core fans and casual gamblers. The hope of having a good season is the ultimate dream.
Today, fans and gamblers alike may have received the same highs and lows as the season began in several different cities. Johan Santana provided his usual reliable performance, but Cliff Lee looked far from the Cy Young award winner he was last year.
Santana and the new look Mets bullpen did exactly what the front office and fans expect a lot of this year. Santana had a strong performance, and then handed the ball off to three of the Mets newest faces.
Sean Green, J.J. Putz, and Francisco Rodriguez combined to throw three and a third innings of shutout ball. That was the good news for gamblers who like the favorites. The bad news came in Cleveland.
Lee was the Cy Young winner last year in the American League, but he looked nothing like the pitcher he was last season. Texas battered the lefty and left the Indians with their first loss of the season, 9-1.
Throughout the rest of the day and into the evening, many more opening day games were set to take place. In Baltimore, C.C. Sabathia took the hill for the first time as a Yankee, while Francisco Liriano and Felix Hernandez get set to square off in Minnesota.
