Baseball Season Enters Last Week With Playoff Spots Up For Grabs
Even though the NFL season has started, baseball is still the national pastime, and the final week of the season is upon us with world series dreams hanging in the balance of teams still in contention.
The last week of the season will bring thrills around major league ball parks with teams still fighting for playoff spots.
The American League appears to be set with the Yankees and A's in control of their divisions.
The Tigers have clinched a playoff spot but are still in a dog fight with the again surprising Twins for the AL Central crown.
In the National League the waters are a little more murky, as the only team to clinch a division title is the New York Mets.
The Central leading Cardinals appear to be in good shape, but after losing all four games in a series against the Astros, will have to win a game or two in the last week to win the division.
In the west, the Padres lead the Dodgers by 1.5 games, one of these teams could be left out in the cold as the Phillies currently lead the wild card by .5 game over the Dodgers.
None of the teams fighting for a playoff spot in the NL face each other in the last week, meaning that each team will have to rely on help to reach the post season.
