The college football season is at a point where any loss could mean the end of title hopes for the contenders. That makes it especially important for teams with one loss to watch their step.

The Texas Longhorns are not one of those teams. Texas remained undefeated on Saturday, surviving an early scare. Now, they will face the last of a three game stretch against top ten teams.

They will enter that game with Texas Tech, who is also undefeated, as the number one team in the BCS rankings that were released on Sunday. The Longhorns have been in first in the standings for both weeks the BCS has released rankings.

Alabama, led by Nick Saban, is the number two team. Their path to the SEC title game got a little bit easier on Saturday when the second place team, LSU, lost against Georgia. The Crimson Tide now has a two game lead in their half of the conference.

Penn State had themselves a big win on the road against Ohio State over the weekend. The Nittany Lions have not fared well in Ohio the past ten years, but were able to overcome the loss of their starting quarterback in defeating the Buckeyes. They are number three in the BCS.

Three one loss teams occupy slots four, five and six in the rankings. Oklahoma is number four, USC has climbed to number five, and Georgia, fresh off their dominating performance over LSU, is number six.

Texas Tech will get to make their case for a title shot when they face Texas. Currently, Texas Tech is number seven in the BCS.

The Gators demolished Kentucky Saturday, and moved up to number eight. Oklahoma State finally lost a game, and they dropped to number nine. Utah, still undefeated after eight games, is number ten.
