Belmont Betting Odds: Borel Guarantees Win For Mine That Bird
Calvin Borel has had quite a run through the Triple Crown of horse racing this year. Even with his amazing journey, he needs to have one more win on Saturday to pull off a feat that has never been accomplished before in the history of horse racing.
Borel is attempting to become the first jockey in racing history to win the Triple Crown while riding two different horses. He won the Kentucky Derby with Mine That Bird, then won the Preakness Stakes on Rachel Alexandra.
He was again set to ride Rachel Alexandra in the Belmont, but the horse's owner pulled the filly out of the race. He claimed that the horse had been run too much this year, and needed a vacation. Borel, however, will wait one more race before he thinks about a vacation.
Since Rachel Alexandra is not running, it feed up Borel to once again climb on the horse that won the Derby. Mine That Bird is an overwhelming favorite in the race, and Borel has all but guaranteed a victory on Saturday.
The betting line on Wednesday afternoon has Mine That Bird as a 5/6 choice to win the Belmont. Dunkirk is the second choice at 7/2, and Charitable Man is third at 3/1. from there, it is a bunch of horses with odds greater than 10/1.
Chocolate Candy is 13/1, Flying Private is 18/1, and Mr. Hot Stuff and Summer Bird are both 20/1. Brave Victory and Miners Escape are 28/1 and 30/1, respectively. The two long shots are Luv Gov and Nowhere to Hide at 50/1.
