Belmont Betting Odds: Derby Winner The Strong Early Favorite
Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird is not quite in the position his trainer wanted him to be in going into the Belmont Stakes. The horse just missed out on a chance of winning the triple crown by not winning the Preakness a couple of weeks ago.
Although Mine That Bird did not win that race, the horse is still the morning line favorite to win the third leg, the Belmont Stakes. Odds makers have listed the horse as a 6/5 choice.
"This type of track and length of the race should give Mine That Bird a good chance to win," said racing fan Ryan Breskly, "actually, I would be shocked if Mine That Bird did not win this race easily."
The sports books are not as sure as Breskly. They have listed Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra as the second betting choice, with odds of 5/2. Dunkirk gets the third nod at 4/1, and Charitable Man comes in right behind that at 9/2.
If it is long shots that a bettor is looking for, Luv Gov is the last choice, with odds of 40/1. Those long odds should not back off any bettor, Mine That Bird was a 50/1 choice when the horse won the Derby.
There are five other horses scheduled to run in the Preakness. Chocolate Candy at 14/1, Flying Private and Mr. Hot Stuff at 20/1, and Miners Escape and Summer Bird at 25/1. The race is set for Saturday evening in New York's Belmont Park.
