Bets on Oliver Stone Movie About World Trade Center Being Made
Sportsbook.com, the king of odds makers creating lines on absurd events, has just released odds on whether this Friday's opening of Oliver Stone's new film on the World Trade Center catastrophe will be over or under $27.5 million.
Early Tuesday morning more than 70% of online gamblers wagered that the film would gross less than that total.
"It will be interesting to see if the betting sentiment is in line with the reality of the situation," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director of Sportsbook.com, "are Americans just not ready to revisit the events of 9/11 in the form of a Hollywood feature film?"
The odds for the film grossing more or less than $27.5 million were based off the movie United 93, another movie based on real life terrorist actions, which grossed less than $12 in its first day. The new Oliver Stone film has the benefit of an movie star cast, which United 93 did not have, but it also approaches a more sensitive terrorist attack.
