Bodog Founder Calvin Ayre Misses His Own Party
Bodog founder Calvin Ayre, the life of every party, was not even in attendance for his own this year at nightclub Tao in Las Vegas.
The annual event is the biggest and most extravagent affiliate party of the year. Look left and see hired Vegas dancers gyrating to the music, look right and see pool tables branded with the Bodog.com logo. Everywhere you turn there are people partying and usually at these parties the biggest crowds gather around Calvin Ayre. However, in light of the recent arrest of BetOnSports.com CEO David Carruthers, Ayre decided not to attend.
"I've got no certainty, whatsoever," said Ayre, speaking by phone from Canada, days after Carruthers' arrest.
"I don't believe any senior executive of any online gaming company is going to be going into the United States for the foreseeable future," Ayre said. "It's not just me, and I've talked to a lot of them."
