Bonds And Rodriguez Reach Milestone Home Runs on Saturday
Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez have both been surrounded with controversy and criticism for most of this season, but when they awake on Sunday morning, they will both be one step closer to baseball immortality.
Rodriguez hit his 500th home run of his career on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium in the Yanks blowout win over the Royals.
Much of the season Rodriguez has been fielding questions about where he will be playing next season, or questions regarding his faithfulness to his wife. Now he will begin the journey of dealing with reporter questions regarding when he will break Barry Bonds' all time home run record.
Technically, it is still part Hank Aaron's record as Bonds only tied the long standing record with his second inning blast in San Diego, but surely Bonds will own the record alone in the next few days.
Bonds heard a heavy mixture of boos and cheers as he rounded the bases and hugged his son at home plate.
Rodriguez heard nothing but cheers from the Bronx crowd as he circled the bases.
Interestingly enough, Rodriguez has been sort of a polarizing figure to fans from around the country, but now that Bonds has tied, and will soon break the record, the fans will almost be supporting Rodriguez in his chase of Bonds.
That will show how fickle baseball fans can be, so set in their belief that their records are sacred, that they will now root for the previously disliked Rodriguez to break the record of a widely perceived cheater.
