Sportsbooks Slow to React to Fallen Braves
One of baseball's most impressive streaks is going to end at 14 because the Braves won't be capturing a 15th straight division title. Not with this motley crew, or should we say Motley Crue. As far as the Braves are concerned, you can forget catching the New York Mets. Deal with it Atlanta fans. Reality isn't the Mets. It's the Florida Marlins.
The Braves have three more losses than the Marlins. It's Atlanta, not Florida, which resides in the basement of the NL East Division. These aren't the miracle Braves of 1991. These Braves are 2-15 this month and haven't experienced a month this bad since the Rafael Ramirez, Glenn Hubbard, and Bruce Benedict days of 1986.
These Braves have dropped 17 of the past 20. These Braves have scored more than four runs just four times their last 17 games. These Braves have an ERA above 5.85 during this stretch and have been beaten by four rookie pitchers.
Still until this weekend against the Boston Red Sox, when the Braves faced Josh Beckett and Curt Schilling, Atlanta was favored in all but two of their previous 21 games. That?s a nice profit for those fading the fading Braves.
