Boys Of Summer Take Over Sports Betting For Next Few Months
The next couple of months is what most sports books refer to as the dead time. There is no NFL, no NHL, and no NBA. That leaves only Major League Baseball for gamblers to wrap their brains around.
Out of all of the professional sports, baseball is the one that has the least appeal to gamblers. The games are longer than any of the other sports' games, and there is much less action for the unrefined fan.
Still, there is something that will draw millions of gamblers to bet on the baseball games. That something is boredom. They want action, and if baseball is the only game in town, the gamblers will take it.
"Even though many gamblers are saving money for football season, baseball still attracts a fair share of betting," said a manager at a Las Vegas sports book who wished to remain anonymous, "as we get closer to the playoffs, the betting will begin to pick up."
For most gamblers that have been paying much attention to the NBA playoffs, it will take several weeks to get acclimated to baseball. They will have to start from scratch in their effort to figure out which pitchers and teams are among the leagues best and most consistent.
With vacations looming, Las Vegas sports books typically see a sharp drop off in wagers in June and July. For those who do not want the break, however, baseball will be available, and sometimes something is better than nothing.
