Brantley Staying May Shift Betting Odds In Favor Of Gators

The Florida Gators were expected to have a drop-off last season after Tim Tebow exited Gainesville. Nobody in the country, however, predicted that the Gators would fall all the way to become a five loss team.

Making matters worse for Gators fans was that Urban Meyer decided to step down once again from his position with the Gators. This time, the move was permanent, and Will Muschamp was brought in to be the new head coach. One of the big questions was whether starting quarterback John Brantley would stay in Gainesville.

The answer came this week when Brantley announced he would remain a Gator. That news was met with mixed results from Florida fans, but overall, it should have Gators fans excited. Brantley never fit in with Meyer's wide open offensive attack.

This season, Brantley will be playing in a pro style offense that comes with new coordinator Charlie Weis. The former Notre Dame head coach has always been a strong coordinator, winning Super Bowl titles in New England, and helping Kansas City rebuild and make the playoffs this season.

Brantley's return and the addition of Weis may have odds makers rethinking the odds to win the SEC next season. If the defense can plug a couple of holes, and talented play makers emerge on offense, the Gators could again find themselves playing for a title as soon as next year.

Muschamp is a defensive minded coach, which bodes well for the Gators. The SEC is loaded with tough defenses, and Florida would like to get back to being one of those teams. As for Brantley, his decision was simple, stay and play for a coach known for developing NFL quarterbacks, and hopefully win a couple of championships along the way.
