Brewers Gambling On Sabathia To Bring Them World Series Title
The Milwaukee Brewers have been looking up at the Chicago Cubs for the entire season so far this year. They are gambling on C.C. Sabathia to change that and deliver them a World Series title.
Sabathia is the reigning American League Cy Young award winner. He no longer pitches in that league, however, after being traded to the Brewers early on Monday.
Sabathia is in the last year of his current contract and will most likely not re-sign with the Brewers before he tests free agency this winter. Still, the Brewers were down with taking the chance that a few months of Sabathia could net them a title.
Sabathia leaves an Indian team that had been growing up together over the past few years. This year, though, they got off to a bad start and have been [plagued by injuries. Their place in the standings coupled with an expiring contract made Sabathia expendable.
Cleveland did get a big time prospect back in return for the Cy Young award winner. Matt LaPorta, one of the top prospects in the Milwaukee organization was shipped to the Indians in the blockbuster deal.
One team that was not happy to see the trade was the New York Yankees who had their eye on Sabathia. The Brewers are battling with the St. Louis Cardinals for second place, and are just a few games behind the Cubs in the National League Central.
