Casino Drive Scratched From Belmont, Gambling Overload On Big Brown
Not much is left to stand in the way of Big Brown and horse racing immortality today. The only horse that was perceived by many to have a chance to beat the favorite has been scratched from the race.
Casino Drive was the only horse on the gambling board that had odds that were even remotely close to Big Brown. Yesterday, Casino Drive missed his morning workout, and there was a fear that he might not race in today's Belmont Stakes.
Those fears came to life on Saturday. Casino Drive has now been scratched from the race. That leaves little between Big Brown and his chance to become one of the most celebrated racing horses of all time.
Big Brown was already the gambling favorite coming into the race. He dominated the fields at both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. Odds makers had him as an overwhelming favorite, with gamblers having to lay almost four to one if they wanted to bet on the favorite.
The gambling odds, however, pale in comparison to the history that could be made today at the Belmont. If Big Brown can prevail, he would become only the second horse in the history of the triple crown, to win the triple crown while undefeated.
The other horses in the field for today, will have to run the race of their lives, and that is just to stay in the same zip code as Big Brown. The overwhelming opinion is that a mere average race by Big Brown would be enough to make him the first triple crown winner in three decades.
Post time is 6:25 for the race, and it will air live on ABC.
