Chargers' Tomlinson Wins NFL MVP
The San Diego Chargers are having one of those seasons that teams and their fans dream about, they are the #1 seed in the leagues strongest conference and now they are starting to reap the benefits of their remarkable season as start running bach LaDainian Tomlinson was named the NFL's most valuable player today.
Tomlinson won the award in a landslide by taking 44 of the 50 votes for the award. The voters are made up of broadcasters and sports writers around the country that cover the NFL. Tomlinsons' former teammate Drew Brees received four votes and Peyton Manning had two.
Tomlinson's season was that of fairy tail as he led the league with 1815 yards, had 508 yards receiving and threw for two touchdowns, and that all was good enough to have won the award, then he throws in the fact that he also broke two significant NFL records, 31 touchdowns in one season and, perhaps even more impressive, he broke Paul Horning's record for single season scoring with 186 points. Horning's record has stood for over 40 years.
Fullback Lorenzo Neal, who leads the way for Tomlinson said, "It couldn't happen to a better person, a man who is the face and the perfect representative of the national football league, he represents what every player should be."
San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer has seen most of the great running backs run, thinks there is more to Tomlinson than just his ability to run the football, "I think with a certainty that everybody in this building and most everybody in the community has a sense about LaDainian Tomlinson. He is an individual who engenders the respect of everybody that he comes in contact with."
Tomlinson's next project will be getting the Chargers that elusive Super Bowl win, a task he will begin next week after the team has a bye for the first round of the playoffs.
