Chicago Bulls Gambling On Derrick Rose With First Pick In Draft
The Chicago Bulls have not had this type of hype surrounding one of their NBA draft picks in a long time. The last time anyone in this city was enthusiastic over a pick, that pick became the greatest player of all time.
In 2008, the Bulls are gambling that Derrick Rose from Memphis becomes half the player that MJ was. Rose was chosen by the Bulls with the number one overall pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night.
Michael Beasley was widely thought of as the best player in the draft this year. Some teams were worried about his character issues, but not the Miami Heat. They chose Beasley to play alongside Dwayne Wade with the number two pick.
Minnesota, fresh off watching their former star Kevin Garnett win an NBA title in his first season away from Minnesota, took O.J. Mayo with the number three pick. Russell Westbrook, a guard out of UCLA was chosen by Seattle at number four, and his teammate Kevin Love went number five to Memphis.
As for Rose, he was just happy to finally be in the NBA. "It feels great to go in and compete. I'm just blessed to be in that position right now, because a lot of people aren't. And just knowing that we are a few pieces away from really contending as a team, it just makes me happy," said Rose.
