Christie Kerr And Bubba Watson Send Gamblers Home Happy
Bubba Watson is somewhat of a freak of nature when it comes to the PGA Tour. Watson out-drives everyone on the planet, including Tiger Woods, but has never won a PGA event, until now. Watson won the Travelers Championship on Sunday.
Cristie Kerr had her sights on bigger things when her day began at the LPGA Championship. Kerr ran away from her competitors Sunday, and in the process became the top ranked women's player in the world. Kerr won by a whopping twelve strokes.
Gamblers who bet on the winners went home from both events happy. In the past couple of years, golf gambling has become more popular amongst bettors because of the odds the gamblers can receive on an individual player.
As for Kerr, her performance not only captivated the gallery at the LPGA Championship, but also amazed the golfer. In the end, Kerr walked away with a title that she will never forget and a number one ranking that she will have to defend in future events.
"It's a dream performance," said Kerr. "It's like you wake up or you dream, I can't even speak right now. Winning by two or three is great, but winning by twelve shots is ridiculous. It's obscene." Whatever other superlatives would apply could be used to describe what will go down as a historic effort.
At the Travelers Championship, Watson was not as lucky as Kerr, he actually had to play a tiebreaker to win his title. Coming from six shots back on Sunday, Watson forced a playoff with Corey Pavin and Scott Verplank. After Pavin was eliminated on the first playoff hole, Watson defeated Verplank with a par on the second extra hole, and captured the championship.
"I'm a very emotional guy," said Watson. "I cry all the time. When I go to church on Sunday, I cry at church. I couldn't get the 'Yes out of I do' at my wedding. The pastor said, 'You got to say it. You can't just nod. You can't nod.'"
