Clemens Should Have Learned from Poor Gambling of Bonds
At this point, Roger Clemens has to be privately wondering whether his decision to go after a report released by a United States Senator is worth what he is about to go through.
The act that Clemens has put on for the general public and in front of Congress was not original. Everything he said and did has already been done before, by Barry Bonds.
So, why then, after watching what Bonds is now facing, would Clemens make the exact same mistakes Bonds did? The answer to that question, might end up being one that haunts Clemens for many years to come.
See, Bonds already played the hard work card. He also was the first of the ego maniacal athletes that severely misjudged his popularity.
When you live in a world where everybody idolizes you, it becomes a belief that you are untouchable. That you are above the law.
But Bonds is finding out the hard way that, that is not the case. The law does not care about how many home runs you hit, and the law certainly does not take kindly to being lied to.
What is more amazing, is that while Bonds made the mistake first, Clemens apparently learned nothing. He saw Bonds become public enemy number one, and still had the nerve to follow in his footsteps when dealing with Congress.
Now, baseball fans get to sit back and watch how two of the most storied ballplayers in the history of the game, get to find out just how human they are. Maybe once Bonds and Clemens both have their day in court, they will realize just how silly they were.
Understand that the law does not care how many home runs you hit, or how many strikeouts you've accumulated while playing a game, it does not seek autographs. Just justice.
