Clippers Betting On Blake Griffin To Change Franchise Fortune

Blake Griffin just had a brother that was drafted by the Harlem Globetrotters. Tonight, Blake will become the number one pick in the NBA draft, and he should be hoping that some of that Globetrotter magic rubs off on his new team.

Griffin will be selected as the number one overall pick tonight by the Los Angeles Clippers. While the organization is happy to be selecting first tonight, it is a position they have been in far too often over the past couple of decades.

Griffin is leaving Oklahoma in the hopes of becoming a star NBA player. If that occurs, the Clippers will be on their way out of the basement again. Just a few short years ago, it looked as though Los Angeles was on their way to future success.

The Memphis Grizzlies have the number two pick tonight, and they are expected to take Hasheem Thabeet with that pick. There is still a chance they pass over Thabeet and go straight for overseas sensation Ricky Rubio from Spain.

Draft day already has been thrown into a frenzy with several trades occurring either late last night or today. The big move, of course, is the trade of Shaquille O'Neal to Cleveland to play alongside LeBron James.

The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers also made a move on Thursday. They sent their first round pick to the New York Knicks for $3 million in cash. More moves are expected before and throughout the draft.
