College Baseball Regionals 2010 Gambling Begins With Brackets

The Arizona State Sun Devils had as good a regular season as any team in college baseball and on Monday they were rewarded by being given the number one overall seed in the upcoming NCAA college baseball tournament. The Texas Longhorns are the number two seed in the race to earn a trip to Omaha.

On Monday, the college baseball brackets were announced for the 2010 season. There were some surprises, but mostly the field consists of the top teams in college baseball. All of the usual suspects have made it into the regionals that begin this week.

The Florida Gators earned an overall number three seed with Coastal Carolina number four. Virginia comes into the tournament as the number five seed, followed by UCLA at six, Louisville at seven, and Georgia Tech at number eight. Gaining a top eight seed is important because if they advance, they would be rewarded with home games in the Super-Regional round.

The regionals consist of four team groups that will play double elimination tournaments. The winners of those mini-tournaments will play in the super-regionals in a best out of three series. The winner of those series' would move on to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Although the gambling level in the college baseball tournament is not on par with football or basketball, there still is plenty of betting on the regional games. One online sports book estimates that millions of dollars will be bet throughout the post-season.

The ACC will be well represented in the tournament, with ACC champs Florida State leading the way. Miami, a frequent participant in Omaha, will also be in the field. The Hurricanes will play the regional round at home in Coral Gables.
