College Football Betting Begins With Florida As Favorite
The Florida Gators are the defending college football national champions. They are returning most of their starters from that championship team, and have a quarterback i Tim Tebow that has two national titles and a Heisman Trophy.
That is why the Gators are the preseason betting favorites to win back to back titles. Sports books have given Florida odds of +200. While two to one odds seem good for a team returning this many starters, they are the lowest number on the board this year.
Behind Florida there is a list of the usual suspects of contenders over the past several years. USC, which blew their chance at a title last year when they were upset by Oregon State, has odds of +500. They are joined at that number by Oklahoma, the team Florida beat in last year's championship game.
Texas is right behind with odds of +600. Ohio State, a team that had been to two straight title games until last year, has odds of +800. No other team is less than ten to one.
"This year does not look like the year that a team will come out of nowhere to win the national title," says analyst Greg Himple, "the top teams from last year just look too loaded for an outsider to make their way into the mix."
The season beings in just over six weeks, with practices beginning soon. Florida State and Miami, which had started several previous seasons with Labor Day night games, will return to that role after a year off last year. The Seminoles and Hurricanes are both hoping this will be the year they return back to the top of college football.
