College Football Betting: Can Utah Beat The Odds In Sugar Bowl?

The BCS bowl games have begun this week, and Virginia Tech has already represented one of the major conferences by bottling up Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl. A few days from now, the national championship game will be played on that same field.

Tonight, one of the teams that expected to be playing in that title game, Alabama, will take the field. The Crimson Tide went the entire season without losing a game until they fell to Florida in the SEC championship.

Their opponent in the Sugar Bowl will be one of the only teams in the nation that can claim to be the best based on the fact that they have not lost. Utah will be trying to show voters that their perfect record is no fluke by taking down what is considered to be one of the top teams in the country.

Sportsbooks are among the crowd that does not believe Utah is for real. The betting line for the Sugar Bowl has Alabama favored by nine points. That is giving no respect to the Utes.

Rarely have betting lines ever given respect in games of this magnitude to teams from smaller conferences. The fact that Alabama has been ranked number one for much of the year also plays into the point spread. The total for the game, which will air on FOX, is forty five.
