College Football Betting Lines in Week 4 Reflect Conference Games
The college football season will kick into full gear this weekend and the oddsmakers appear to be hanging their hopes on conference games being tightly contested.
Many games seem to have suspect betting lines this week according to VIPSports.com. The reality is that oddsmakers are hoping for the underdogs to keep games close simply because they are playing within their own conferences.
Games of note this week are Michigan at home against a Wisconsin team that has struggled early in the season. The betting line on the game is 14. However, had this been Michigan vs. an out of conference team that started slowly the line probably would be between 21 and 24.
In Columbus, Ohio St. plays Penn State. The line is currently 17. Penn State has shown nothing yet this year that would leave anyone to think they can stay within 3 touchdowns of the Buckeyes. But once again, there is the mystery of teams playing inside their own conference.
Another example of a betting line being controlled by a conference match up is in Illinois, where Iowa goes on the road for this match up.
Illinois quite possibly could be one of the worst teams in any of the major conferences in the nation, but they are only 21 point underdogs in this game.
Every year, the oddsmakers get stuck with teams that are overmatched playing against teams that should dominate, and this looks to be that week this season.
