College Football Betting Odds: Alabama And LSU Set For Showdown
College football betting can sometimes be unpredictable, even when there appears to be a top match up in store for a given weekend. Saturday night, however, gamblers will have to make one of their most difficult choices in recent memory if they choose to bet on the LSU, Alabama game in Tuscaloosa.
It does not happen often in college football when a number one ranked team meets the number two team this late in the season. Usually, fans will settle for the many top ten match ups that come around each year. While the Tigers and Crimson Tide do battle in a game featuring the top teams in the nation, it does again place the SEC in the spotlight.
The SEC has built a dynasty over the past five years. They have had a team win a national title in each of those years, and will be the favorite to do so again this season regardless of which team survives Saturday's game. The Crimson Tide are just two years removed from their title, and the Tigers need only go back a couple of years more for their last championship.
With several of the undefeated teams losing last week, it has become more clear to all college football fans and analysts that Alabama and LSU may be the cream of the crop this year. Only Oklahoma State, Stanford, and Boise State have a chance to run the table among the major college football programs, and none of those teams would be favored against an SEC team in the title game.
The Tigers may be the number one team in the country, but odds makers have installed the Crimson Tide as 4.5 point betting favorites in the game. Sports books make their lines based on the betting public, and the 4.5 point Alabama line indicates that gamblers believe the home team has an edge in this one. The total for the game is 41.5, with both teams possessing strong defenses.
In other SEC action Saturday, the Florida Gators will be looking to snap a four game losing streak when they face Vanderbilt. The Gators are a two touchdown favorite in that game. South Carolina and Arkansas are two teams that still are clinging to SEC title hopes. The Razorbacks will be hosting the Gamecocks, and Arkansas is a five point favorite. The total is 53.
The winner of the LSU, Alabama game has a clear run through the end of the season and a great chance to win out and play for a national title. The loser could keep themselves in the national title picture by losing a tight game against their rival Saturday and then winning the rest of their games.
