College Football Betting Odds: Hurricanes And Seminoles In Opener
College football is once again officially here. Teams have started their practices and they are preparing for season openers that are less than a month away. The big game on the season's first week, as it has been for several of the last decade, is in the state of Florida.
The Florida State Seminoles and Miami Hurricanes have become accustomed to playing on Labor Day night. College football had started this tradition when the two teams were both powerhouses. Although the annual game has lost some of its luster over the years, this season may be different.
Both the Seminoles and Hurricanes have made major strides in recruiting over the past couple of years. The Hurricanes started almost an entire team of freshman last year, and they showed glimpses of how good they could be.
The Seminoles ride back to the top seemed on a quicker track last year, when they started strong and was highly ranked until a late season collapse. Now, both teams know how important that first game in Tallahassee could be this year.
It may be more important to the Hurricanes than the Seminoles. Miami has a brutal start to their season. They play at Florida State, then have Georgia tech, Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma. It is the type schedule that could doom them to mediocrity, or show the college world that they are back.
It is true that Florida, and even to a lesser extent, South Florida, have stolen the spotlight from the once-proud programs at Miami and Florida State, but moving their annual game back to Labor Day this year could change all of that.
For one team, the game will be a stepping stone, and for the other, a disappointing start to the new college football campaign.
