College Football Betting Odds: TCU And Boise State For Title?

A couple of years ago, Boise State defeated powerhouse Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. Last season, Utah throttled Alabama in their bowl game. This year, BCS organizers were going to ensure neither team from a non-BCS school could rain on their fictional parade.

Somehow, someway, the BCS system produced a game of two undefeated teams, where the winner would not be recognized for their efforts. Had Boise State or TCU beaten say, Ohio State or Florida, the anti-BCS groups would have been calling for a playoff.

So the BCS did the safe thing, and placed two of the best teams in non-BCS schools in the same bowl so that no further damage could be done to their failing system. Tonight, Boise State and TCU meet in the Fiesta Bowl.

By Florida pounding Cincinnati, it looks as though the BCS powers-to-be will again avoid a devastating bowl result. They understand that with each Boise State, TCU, and Utah, win, college football fans will be more boisterous in their efforts to rid the sport of what is widely perceived as an "embarrassment" of a system.

Every other major college sport has a playoff to determine their national champions, but not college football. That is why for more than half the season, fans are treated to Florida versus FIU, and Texas against Louisiana-Monroe.

Tonight is a showcase of everything that is right about college football. Unfortunately, it is being played between two teams that the BCS does not acknowledge as real competitors for a college football championship. That means the people that count will most likely not be tuning in to the show.
