The West Virginia football program was considered to be one of the top ten programs in the nation under former coach Rich Rodriguez. Since Rodriguez's departure, the Mountaineers have remained a top twenty-five program, but have fallen out of the top ten.

Tonight, West Virginia will kick off what figures to be a busy college football betting weekend. The Mountaineers are on the road facing Marshall, but are still favored in the game by almost two touchdowns. The thirteen point spread is not even the largest of the night.

In the other game of the evening, the University of Texas El Paso does not have to travel far to play in-state rival Houston. UTEP is a 20.5 point underdog, and the total for the game is 75, indicating that neither teams defense is expected to stop the opposing offenses. The total in the West Virginia, Marshall, game is 47.

On Saturday, there are four games that most of the country will keep their eyes on. Georgia will face off against South Carolina in a match up of two teams that are expected to make strong runs at the SEC title. Steve Spurrier has had South Carolina on the cusp of greatness, but has yet to get his team over the hump.

In the mid-afternoon, two Florida teams will travel to face top ten opponents. Florida State, fresh off their win against Sanford, will be playing in Norman against the Sooners. Miami will try to avenge a championship game loss seven years ago when they play Ohio State in the Horseshoe.

Saturday night, Penn State and Joe Paterno will head to Tuscaloosa to face the top team in the country. Alabama went undefeated last season, and is off to a strong start this year. The out of conference game should serve as a measuring stick for both programs.
