College Football Betting Preview: Can Seminoles Save Bowden?
The seniors that will step on the field for the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville have not done much in the way of helping Bobby Bowden stave off his critics. On Saturday, however, they can be a part of something much bigger.
Bowden is losing his grip on the program he made famous for football. In order to keep his job, Bowden may have to pull off the improbable win over the top ranked Gators Saturday, and that is where these seniors can make their legacy.
It is borderline absurd that a coach with the second highest wins of any that ever stood on the sidelines in college football is fighting for his job, but with the success that Bowden has created comes unrealistic expectations from fans and boosters.
The boosters must be careful what they wish for. If Bowden leaves, it would most likely be another few years before the Seminoles even had a chance to become a national powerhouse again. With the Hurricanes improving, and the Gators on an unbelievable run, there is not much room for error for Florida State in the recruiting battle of Florida.
The Seminoles have an offense that has put up huge points all season, but their defense is nothing like the powers that Mickey Andrews used to throw out year after year. Andrews will be a side-note in today's game, as he will be retiring after this season.
Andrews and Bowden have been together for decades, and in order to not go out at the same time, Florida State may have to do the improbable, just like Bowden did when he turned the program around.
