College Football Ends Regular Season With BCS Births On The Line
The college football regular season which started back in early September will come to an end today with several teams and the Universities they represent hoping for a victorious outcome and a BCS bowl birth.
USC seems like the team who has much to lose and much to gain today. If the Trojans should win, they would in all likelihood head to the national title game in Tempe, Arizona to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. If UCLA upsets the #2 Trojans, USC would be relegated most likely to one of the other BCS games.
Florida is another team with much to lose today in the SEC championship game. The Gators need UCLA to beat USC, and, the Gators need to convincingly defeat Arkansas in their game to even have a shot at passing Michigan and playing for a national title.
Arkansas, on the other hand, is trying to crash the BCS party by beating Florida and earning the SEC automatic bid into a BCS game.
Michigan is the wild card in this whole scenario as the Wolvereines will be pulling for the Bruins to beat the Trojans and the Razorbacks to beat the Gators in order to set up a rematch with Ohio State for the national title. Michigan most likely would reach the title game with a USC loss and a sloppy Florida win.
The two other BCS automatic births will come from the Big East and the Big Twelve. In the Big East Rutgers travels to face West Virginia tonight. If the Scarlet Knights win, they will represent the Big East in the BCS. If the Mountaineers win, Louisville will be the conferences representatives.
The Big Twelve birth will come from their conference championship between Oklahoma and Nebraska, two programs that have been down in recent years, but both of which have a chance to return to prominance by winning their conference title.
One other conference title will be up for grabs as Georgia Tech will face Clemson for the ACC title.
