College Football Picks: Georgia Tech Opens The Door In ACC
It is unknown who will win the right to represent the Coastal division in the ACC Championship. One thing that is known is that Georgia Tech gave more than one team hope Thursday night by blasting the Miami Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes went into that game as the only team in the division that controlled their own destiny. If they had won and then beat North Carolina State to end their regular season, they would have been on their way to the title game.
Now, after the Yellow Jacket win, North Carolina looks to be the team that has benefited the most. They can claim the title in the division by beating N.C. State and Duke in their final two games.
Regardless of who comes out of the Coastal division, the fact that the team will have at least three conference losses does not excite ACC officials. When they added Virginia Tech and Miami to the conference, they did so with the hopes of having national championship caliber teams playing in their conference title game.
"What has happened to Florida State and Miami over the past several years has really hurt the ACC. It is the equivalent to Duke and North Carolina falling from the top of college basketball. It completely changes the dynamic of the conference," said Henry Bollinger, an observer from Maryland.
In addition to North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech, all now have aspirations of playing in the title game. The Hurricanes also could still reach the game, but after their performance on Thursday night, it may not be what is best for this team.
