College Football Picks This Weekend: Texas Over Missouri, And...
The Texas Longhorns snuck up on the Oklahoma Sooners last week. They had not been getting much press in the early part of the season, and they were able to stay undefeated by beating the Sooners.
They will not repeat that feat this week. If they are going to win this week against Missouri, they will have to do so as the favorite. This week, there is much more to lose than last.
The Longhorns are now in the national spotlight. People who did not know before, know now that Texas is a powerhouse this year. The pressure will be on them now week in and week out to prove that they belong near or at the top of the polls.
Missouri, on the other hand, has gone in the opposite direction. They have been highly ranked all year and perhaps was looking ahead to this match up with Texas. The only problem was that they had to play Oklahoma State last week. By overlooking that game, the Tigers now come into this game with a loss.
If Missouri loses again it would end almost all hopes of winning a national championship. The Tigers have a high powered offense, but their defense could not stop Oklahoma State last week. They face a stronger offense this week in Texas.
Texas is the favorite for a reason. They are the better team. They no longer have to prove their worth to voters. What they have to prove is that they can win the games they are supposed to. Today will be a first step in that process.
