College Football Rankings: Nobody Gambling Against Big Three
This past weekend college football analysts and the sports' fans learned that most teams around the country are only as good as their last performance. In a week when some of the more hyped teams of the past week lost big, the top three established themselves as a cut above the rest.
Florida, Texas, and Alabama are now in complete control of their own destiny for the rest of this college football season after many teams took their first loss. Included in the list of disappointments are Penn State, Ole Miss, California, Miami, and North Carolina.
The Nittany Lions were upset for the second year in a row by Iowa. This year, however, the loss came at home. California and Miami were both blown out by teams that are now in the top fifteen in the country.
Florida dismantled Kentucky and remained on top in all of the polls. The Gators did, however, lose their quarterback Tim Tebow to a concussion. His status for a showdown with LSU in two weeks is unknown.
Texas remained at number two, and Alabama is again number three. In the AP Top 25, the Crimson Tide actually received four first place votes. LSU had a goal line stand to beat Mississippi State, and moved up to number four, almost by default.
Boise State appears to finally be receiving some national attention although it is only happening because almost every other team in the country has a loss. The Broncos are in the top five for the first time in school history.
Virginia Tech, fresh off the waxing of Miami, moves up to number six, with USC climbing their way back to seven. Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Cincinnati round out the top ten. The Sooners will have a tough test this weekend when they travel to play the Hurricanes in a prime time match up in Miami.
