College Football Rankings: Oklahoma Sooners The New Top Team

For all of the fans that spend their days trying to figure out how the BCS was going to slight their team, this week gave a good lesson. Win your games first, then worry about the rankings at the end of the year.

While everyone wants to create BCS problems before they happen, the one formula that has proven successful for most teams over the years is winning all of their games. That is no longer possible for three of last week's top five teams.

USC, Georgia, and Florida all had their title hopes take a severe hit over the weekend by losing conference games. Oklahoma became the beneficiary of those losses and is now the number one team in the country in both major polls.

The two polls have differences of opinions on who is the second best team, however. The AP has Alabama at number two, while the USA Today poll has defending champion LSU at two.

Missouri is even above Alabama in the USA Today poll, but in the AP the Tigers are number four. Texas rounds out the top five in both polls.

The Gators took the worst drop of the three teams that lost this weekend. They dropped all the way to number twelve and thirteen in the two polls. The Trojans are the only one of the three to remain in the top ten in the AP poll. They were number nine.
