College Football Rankings: Texas Longhorns The New Number One

The Texas Longhorns have had to listen all year to analysts debating whether USC, Oklahoma, LSU, or Alabama was the best team in the country. After defeating the Sooners on Saturday, Texas has become the consensus number one team in the country.

The Longhorns were moving up regardless of other results after stunning the Sooners. They received the jolt necessary to make them number one when LSU lost to the Gators on Saturday night.

The AP and the USA Today polls both have the Longhorns as the number one team in the nation. In fact, the two polls agreed on the top three teams. Alabama is second, and Penn State, after pummeling Wisconsin, is number three.

That is where the similarities in the two polls end. In the AP poll, Oklahoma fell only to number four after their loss to Texas. Florida, coming off a big win at home over LSU, is number five.

In the USA Today poll, USC moved back into title contention at number four. Texas Tech moved up to number five. The Sooners dropped to number six in the poll.

Oklahoma State received one of the biggest pushes in the pols after defeating Missouri Saturday night. They are up to number eight in the AP poll and number ten in the USA Today.
