College Football Rankings: USC Remains Number One
The USC Trojans know what it is like to be on top of the college football rankings. Their number one ranking is nothing new to them. To stay on top, however, they will have to defeat Ohio State in their next game.
In the rankings that were released on Sunday, USC remained number one. They received thirty three first place votes in the AP poll and thirty four in the USA Today poll.
Following USC once again was the team they jumped in the season's first week. Georgia held on to their slim lead over Oklahoma for the second spot in the polls. The Bulldogs received twenty three first place votes in the AP and eighteen in the USA Today polls.
The Florida Gators earned their first win over rival Miami in twenty three years on Saturday. For the most part it was a close game until the Gators broke it open a bit in the fourth quarter. Still, despite a sluggish performance they come in at number four in the polls.
Ohio State, which has that huge match up with USC upcoming, is the number five team in the country. Maybe the most impressive team thus far this year has been Missouri. The Tigers are number six in the polls, followed by LSU, Texas, Auburn, and Wisconsin to finish out the top ten.
Two teams dropped out of the top twenty five in the AP poll, UCLA and South Carolina. In the USA Today poll, South Carolina and Illinois both fell out of the rankings.
