Colts And Bears Find Alternate Ways To Reach The Super Bowl

Everybody knows about the Colts, they ride into town on the arm of all world quarterback Peyton Manning, they run up as many points as it takes to win a football game, then they leave having piled up offensive numbers.

If that is the way they reached the Super Bowl nobody would have been surprised. It's not. The Colts found something in this years playoff run that has been missing for years, a defense.

In the regular season opposing teams were rolling up rushing numbers on the Colts in record numbers, but something changed in the playoffs as Indy is allowing almost 100 fewer yards rushing a game than in the regular season.

Even more impressive is the caliber of runners they have shut down in their playoff run, Kansas City's Larry Johnson, Baltimore's Jamal Lewis, and the Patriots two headed monster Corey Dillon and Lawrence Maroney. Now they find themselves one more strong defensive performance from winning a championship.

That's where the other surprise comes in. They will have to stop a Chicago offense that, after being much maligned all season, has put up all kind of offensive numbers in the playoffs, and dare it be said, could be the best offense on the field in Miami.

Rex Grossman has taken much heat through the season with sceptics pointing to his erratic play as a cause for concern for the Bears.

But what the skeptics fail to mention, is that when Grossman is good, he is outstanding, posting a bunch of 100 plus passer rating games this year.

So the Super Bowl will come and go and the match up, which was thought to be decided by the Colts offense against the Bears defense, could in reality come down to the lesser known teams, Indy's defense vs. Chicago's offense.
