Colts And Dolphins Kick Off NFL Betting Season As Big Underdogs
The Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins have been betting darlings of gamblers for over a decade, but this year, the two teams will find themselves in an unfamiliar position. On Sunday, the new season of NFL betting kicks into full gear, and it is the Colts and Dolphins that are the biggest underdogs on the day.
The Colts have spent much of the past decade being the team that gamblers could count on when it came to giving points. Indy had future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning running up the score on many occasions, which made it easy for bettors to either pick the Colts outright, or bet on the over in the Colts' game totals.
This year, gamblers will have to decide just how good rookie quarterback Andrew Luck can be in his first season. Manning went 3-13 in his first season, and analysts believe that Luck will have similar growing pains. The Colts are 10 point underdogs on the road in Chicago.
Down in Miami, the Dolphins are also in rebuilding mode. Miami is one of five teams that will start a rookie quarterback. Ryan Tannehill will try to lead his team to a win in Houston, against one of the betting favorites to reach the Super Bowl from the AFC. The Texans are 12.5 point favorites over Miami.
Several divisional match-ups will take place on opening day. In Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers will host Carolina. The Panthers, led by Cam Newton, defeated the Bucs twice last season, and are one point road favorites today.
In New York, the Jets will be looking to start their season with a division win over Buffalo. The Bills and Jets both had tough preseasons, and that has left odds makers to insert the home Jets as a 2.5 point favorite.
The Sunday night game will be one that all NFL fans will have their eyes on. The Pittsburgh Steelers will return to the scene of their stunning playoff loss last year, and face off with a Denver Broncos team that built on that playoff win by getting rid of starting quarterback Tim Tebow and replacing him with Manning. The Broncos are one point favorites at home.
