Confederations Cup Betting Odds: US Back On The Board
The US soccer team is used to being the underdog in major international soccer tournaments. They have never quite reached the status of teams such as Germany, Italy, Brazil, and Spain. This Confederations Cup has been no different for the US.
They surprisingly made it into the semi-finals of the tournament with a 1-2 group record. That occurred thanks to a 3-0 Brazil win over Italy coupled with a 3-0 US win over Egypt. Their reward for their efforts was a match with top seeded Spain.
The Spaniards had not lost a game in nearly three years coming into the semi-final match. They were such overwhelming favorites that many sports books took the US off the board. Then a funny thing happened, the US shocked the world and beat Spain 2-0.
Now they get a rematch with Brazil, who had beat them 3-0 earlier in the tournament. Both teams know, however, how much things have changed in the past week. The US is playing at the top of their game, while Brazil suddenly looks beatable.
Brazil is heavily favored for the final match. They are a 1/7 favorite at most sportsbooks. The US, on the other hand, will return a bettor 4/1 on their money. Anyone believing in the US could stand to profit from the match.
A look at the top goalscorer odds reveals just how little chance the odds makers think the US team has of winning this match. The top five odds for top goalscorer in the game are all Brazilians.
Luis Fabiano is the overwhelming first choice, with Fernando Torres, David Villa, Kaka, and Robinho the second through fifth choices. Jozy Altidore has the best odds for the US team.
