Could Mountain West Conference Become Popular Among Gamblers?
Conference realignment has been the talk of the college football world all week long, and on Friday, another domino fell. Boise State has decided to take their top ten ranked program to the Mountain West Conference.
Boise has been on the cusp of playing for a national championship for several seasons, but each time they have come up short, losing out to major conference teams. Now, the Broncos believe that by going to a conference that also has top programs, they will increase their standing with voters.
As reported yesterday on CGW, gamblers will also be keeping a close eye on how the conferences shake down. Boise State and the over has been a popular play the past few seasons. When they move to the Mountain West Conference, the competition will be stiffer, and it could cause bettors to be cautious in their wagers.
The major realignment is expected to happen in the coming weeks. Some analysts are even suggesting that the major programs could shift on Tuesday. Texas and Oklahoma are the prizes that other conferences covet, but neither has given any indication what their plans are in the future.
Texas A&M, a main rival of the Longhorns, has indicated that they may be more inclined to join the SEC than the Pac Ten. Whether either conference would extend an invitation to the Aggies is unknown, but the Pac Ten has already shown the willingness to expand.
Nebraska has already made their move official. The Cornhuskers are accepting an invitation to join the Big Ten, cutting ties with the Big Twelve. If all of the teams that are rumored to move do make a switch, the Big Twelve's standing as a major conference could be questioned.
