CPMA Needs Bettors Opinions
The first review of the Canadian racing regulations in more than 10 years will work to address the changing nature of the racing environment and the challenges facing the industry.
"The (horse racing) industry has been calling for changes," said David Liston, a spokesperson for the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency. "The gambling environment has changed significantly over the past 10 to 15 years." Racetracks used to have a monopoly on sports gambling, but now face stiff competition from casinos, international racing, and online betting agencies, he said.
These new realities prompted the review, which will be a comprehensive look at all of the CPMA's policies. Regional information sessions took place in Truro, N.S., and Toronto in late May, as well as in Montreal and Calgary in early June.
